The numbers are in... 2008-09 Membership Results

OK, there's good news and there's bad news.

Last Year's numbers are in (through June 30, 2009)...

The good news: Rotary membership is UP worldwide by over 28,000 Rotarians or 2.35 percent. This translates to meeting roughly 27 percent of the worldwide goal for last year. Total Rotary membership is at 1,234,481. Total clubs increased from 33,116 to 33,789 (+673).

The bad news: Our goal in 2008-09 was to reverse a declining trend across our two zones then stretching from WV to the southern part of South America. We did not do so.

Zone 33 had a decline of members of 145 last year or -0.43 percent, although there was a gain of 9 clubs net. High performers include: District 7730, DG Lee Dixon (+2.89%, net 58), District 7710, DG Don Buckner (+2.38%, net 44), and District 7600, DG Bill Pollard (+1.51%, net 46).

Zone 34 had a decline of members of 325 last year or -0.89 percent, although there was a gain of 11 clubs net. High performers include: District 7020, DG Rupert Ross (+7.02%, net 167), District 6930, DG Frances Owen (+1.57%, net 28), and District 6940, DG Ron Richards (+0.71%, net 19).

We have slowed the rate of descent, but we are still in a negative total membership posture. The importance of membership development must continue to be emphasized at all levels to reverse this trend. More analysis to follow.
